Advocate Thabani Mpofu has written to Army Commander Lt. Gen. Anselem Sanyatwe, demanding that he retract statements made at a rally where he vowed that “Zanu PF will rule until donkeys grow horns” through “command voting.”
In the letter, Mpofu noted that these statements are a vi0lation of Section 208(2) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe. He further stated that the record constitutes a vi0lation of Section 155 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe and the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) by threatening to rig elections in favor of the ruling party, Zanu PF, and against the opposition.
Meanwhile, Gen. Anselem Sanyatwe was recorded in a video at a rally asserting that Zanu PF will win the upcoming elections and rule indefinitely.
Netizens have condemned the act, with one user stating, “The old soldier should be reminded that coercion is not permissible!”

Controversial Australia-based philanthropist Susan Mutami claimed that Sanyatwe was once in charge of a unit in Mutare during the diamond season.
She advised caution, stating, “Those from Mutare can testify, he’s ruthless.” Mutami further noted that Anselem Sanyatwe has always been under military rule, adding, “You guys are headed towards a one-party state. The fact that opposition leaders were paid hush money means they are all in their pockets now.”
