The police in Mbire arrested a suspect who was found in possession of four pieces of raw ivory.
According to reports, the police received information about a person suspected of illegal wildlife trafficking and quickly moved in to apprehend the individual.
The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Coherence Muchemi, was arrested at Chitsungo Business Centre.
During a search of Muchemi’s possession, the police discovered four pieces of raw ivory with an average length of one metre each.
The ivory is believed to have been poached from elephants and was likely destined for the black market.
The arrest is a significant blow to wildlife traffickers who have been operating in the area. The seized ivory has been taken into custody and will be used as evidence in court.
Muchemi is expected to appear in court soon to face charges related to illegal wildlife trafficking.
The arrest is also a testament to the effectiveness of the Zimbabwean authorities’ efforts to combat wildlife trafficking and protect the country’s natural resources.
