On July 9 2024, police officers in Madlambuzi acted on a tip-off and apprehended Washington Ndlovu (50) at Bambadzi Village, Maitengwe, for being in possession of an unregistered firearm.
According to reports, the police received information that Ndlovu was carrying a Berreta Pistol loaded with a magazine containing seven live rounds.
Upon being approached by the police, the suspect failed to produce a firearm certificate, which is a legal requirement for owning a firearm in Zimbabwe.
Ndlovu claimed that he had purchased the firearm abroad for self-defense purposes, but this excuse did not convince the police.
The suspect was subsequently taken into custody and is facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm.
The police is urging the public to always follow the law and ensure that they have all the necessary permits and documentation when possessing firearms.
The police will continue to crack down on anyone found to be in possession of an unregistered firearm or ammunition.
