A 22-year-old aspiring soldier, Abdallah Bija, collapsed and d!ed during a pre-recruitment exercise in Tororo District, Uganda.
The incident occurred on Friday at Tororo Police playground, where candidates from Butalejja District and the Busoga region were participating in physical drills as part of the recruitment process.
According to authorities, Bija collapsed after completing a 4-kilometer run and was rushed to Tororo District General Referral Hospital, where he unfortunately succumbed to his condition.
The cause of de@th is yet to be determined, pending a postmortem examination.
Deputy Resident District Commissioner Albert Amula speculated that heart failure might have been the cause.
This incident comes just days after another recruit, Levi Okwir, collapsed due to suspected hunger during a physical fitness test in Dokolo District.
Meanwhile, over 500 applicants failed to meet the required standards in the preliminary tests, dashing their hopes of joining the military. The UPDF recruitment team has expressed regret over the unfortunate incident.
