South African wheelchair tennis player Kgothatso Montjane and her Japanese partner, Yui Kamiji have won the 2024 Women’s Wheelchair Tennis Doubles champions at Wimbledon over the weekend.
President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his gratitude and extended a warm congratulations to Kgothatso Montjane, and her Japanese partner, Yui Kamiji, following their straight-sets win over the Dutch women.
“Proud congratulations to our star from Seshego, Kgothatso Montjane, and her Japanese partner, Yui Kamiji, on their straight-sets win over Diede de Groot and Jiske Griffioen to become the 2024 Women’s Wheelchair Tennis Doubles champions at Wimbledon this weekend.
This victory at the home of the only major tournament played on grass, crowns Kgothatso’s outstanding record in tournaments from Belgium and Switzerland to the United States and Australia.
We salute you, Kgothatso, on your life as a champion on and off the court and we look forward to your continued success,” the post reads.
It was one way traffic for Montjane and her partner as they served four aces to the zero of their opponents. The duo also won 69% of their first serve, while converting three of their eight break points.
