The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed the recovery of 32 stolen cattle from Mozambique, following a joint operation between the two countries to combat stock theft cases in border areas.
The operation, which took place on July 10 2024, resulted in the recovery of the stolen cattle from Mamutse Area, Mozambique, which were identified as belonging to a resident of Mufukwa Village, Chipinge.
The cattle were reportedly stolen in Zamuchaya Area, Chipinge, and their owner has positively identified them.
In a separate operation, the police deployed on July 9th and 12th, 2024 to flush out illegal gold mining activities along the Mutare River in Penhalonga.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 90 suspects involved in various illegal mining activities. The recovery of an assortment of mining equipment, including wheelbarrows, shovels, submersible pumps, hammer mills, water pumps, and solar panels, was also made.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has emphasized that it will continue to collaborate with Mozambican authorities in tackling cross-border crimes.
Additionally, the police have vowed to ensure that those engaging in illegal mining activities under the guise of mining syndicates or groups will face the full force of the law.
