The KwaMhlanga Regional Court has convicted Gladstone Sipho Mahlangu, 43, of m_rdering his fiancée Siphiwe Mavis Mokoena and attempting to m_rder her other boyfriend.
Mahlangu had paid lobola (bridewealth) to Mokoena’s family and they had two children together.
On February 24, 2019, Mahlangu went to Mokoena’s house and found her with another man. An argument ensued, and Mahlangu fatally shot Mokoena in the head and injured the other man.
Mahlangu claimed it was an accident and that he acted in self-defense, but the court rejected his version due to overwhelming evidence.

The court heard testimony from the complainant, an eyewitness, and post-mortem reports, which showed that Mahlangu intentionally shot Mokoena and inflicted life-threatening injuries on the other man.
The m_rdered woman’s father testified that losing his daughter had a devastating impact on the family, who now has to care for Mokoena’s children.
The court sentenced Mahlangu to 20 years in prison, consisting of 15 years for m_rder and 5 years for attempted m_rder.
