A light aircraft, a Bat Hawk LSA, crashed in Pretoria, City of Tshwane, on Monday, leaving the pilot !njured and the passenger unscathed.
According to Sisa Majola, spokesperson for the South African Civil Aviation Authority, the plane was on a private flight from Wonderboom Airport with two people on board.
While approaching the Bundy Fly Inn Estate airfield, the pilot decided to make a U-turn over Rosslyn and head back to the airfield.
However, the engine failed during the final approach, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing in an open field.

The aircraft suffered significant damage, and the pilot sustained minor injuries, but the passenger escaped unharmed.
An investigator from the Accident and Incident Investigations Division (AIID) was dispatched to the scene to gather information and determine if a full investigation is warranted.
The AIID will analyze the initial findings and safety concerns to decide on the next steps.
