On July 16 2024, the police launched an operation dubbed “No to Cross Border Crimes” at the Nyamapanda Border Post, where they made an arrest.
Acting on received information, police officers manning the security checkpoint intercepted a suspicious individual, identified as Casper Kokerai, 31, who was driving a Volvo truck with registration number AGL 0096.
During a thorough search of the vehicle, the police discovered a substantial amount of contraband goods.
The haul included 172 bales of second-hand clothes, 10 boxes of second-hand shoes, two sacks of second-hand handbags, four sacks of mixed clothes, and two boxes of Malawi Gin.
Additionally, the officers found one box of mixed fish, 50 kg bags of mealie-meal and cow peas, two boxes of chilli peppers, and seven 50 kg sacks of groundnuts.
The estimated value of the seized goods is a staggering US$31,235.00.
The arrest and seizure are considered a major success in the fight against cross-border crime and trafficking in the region.
