A devastating incident occurred yesterday in Zambia when a Kitwe man, Albert Mubanga, set his family’s house on fire, killing his 1-year-old granddaughter, Evelyn Kena, and leaving eight other family members with severe burns.
According to Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer, Peacewell Mweemba, the incident was reported to Kawama Police Post under Mindolo Police Station by Mambwe’s younger sister, Catherine Mulenga. Mubanga’s actions were reportedly motivated by anger towards his former wife, Beauty Mambwe, who had collected rental money from their two shops without his knowledge or consent.
The couple had been divorced last month, and Mubanga had appealed against the court’s ruling on the sharing of their properties.
