Vice President General Retired Dr Constantino Chiwenga has arrived in Paris, France ahead of the official opening of the 2024 Olympics this Friday. He is accompanied by his wife, Colonel Miniyothabo Baloyi Chiwenga, and senior government officials.
Upon arrival at the Paris Le Bourget Airport, Vice President Chiwenga was met by Minister of Sport, Arts and Recreation Hon Kirsty Coventry, Zimbabwe’s Charge’ d’ Affairs in France Emmanuel Zinyuke, Team officials, and other dignitaries.
Zimbabwe is being represented by a contingent of seven athletes at the summer Olympics, including sprinters Makanakaishe Charamba and Tapiwanashe Makarawu, long distance runners Isaac Mpofu and Rutendo Nyahora, swimmers Denilson Cyprianos and Paige Van der Westuizen, and rower Stephen Cox.
During his stay in Paris, Vice President Chiwenga will not only be watching the Olympic events but will also engage in various bilateral meetings with French business people and other government officials. The Vice President’s visit is seen as an opportunity to strengthen diplomatic ties between Zimbabwe and France.
