Ezekiel McDonald Chibvongodze (29) has been denied bail after appearing before a Marondera magistrate today on charges of murd£ring his wife, Mitchel Evelyn Katakwe, and their six-year-old son, Kimley Tawananyasha Chibvongodze.
The regional magistrate, Mr. Panashe Chitongo, remanded Chibvongodze in custody until August 6, 2024.
The tragic incident took place on Sunday night in Nyameni, Marondera. Chibvongodze allegedly st@bbed his wife and son to de@th before attempting to end his own life, an attempt that ultimately failed.
Leaked chat messages have surfaced, providing insight into Chibvongodze’s state of mind and possible motives.
In the messages, Chibvongodze expresses his despair and frustration, citing external influences on his wife and perceived lack of support for their son. He laments, “When a good heart meets a cruel heart, an explosion is inevitable. I looked everywhere for someone to take care of our son but found no one.”

Chibvongodze’s messages reveal his deep resentment toward those he believes interfered in his marriage, leading to the fatal outcome. He addresses various individuals, accusing them of influencing Mitchel and contributing to his actions. He states, “To those who thought they could benefit from Mitchel without me, this is the result. You miscalculated.”
In a final, sorrowful note, Chibvongodze apologizes to his family and friends, expressing regret for his actions but maintaining his resolve. “My concerns were taken for granted, which is why I made this hard decision. I don’t care whether I will enter heaven or not. To my family, I am very sorry. I fought on both fronts and it became too much.”
