Air Zimbabwe is set to resume direct flights to London, a move aimed at boosting trade and leveraging Zimbabwe’s centrality in the Sadc region.
This development will cut travel costs for Zimbabweans and neighboring country travelers who currently travel to Europe via South Africa, Kenya, Dubai, or Ethiopia.
The resumption of flights is part of the government’s Open Skies Policy, which aims to enhance the country’s attractiveness for investment and tourism.
Air Zimbabwe has cleared a debt of US$1.4 million to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and is now focused on expanding its international routes network and forming global partnerships.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development Felix Mhona confirmed that Air Zimbabwe will resume flights to London soon, emphasizing the strategic advantage of having an airline fly into Gatwick Airport.
The minister also mentioned plans to use this route for transporting minerals to the UAE via the DRC.
The resumption of flights is expected to boost the tourism sector, as London serves as a gateway to many Western countries.
In addition, the installation of a new state-of-the-art radio navigation system at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport is expected to attract more international airlines to Harare and increase tourist arrivals.
The resumption of direct flights from Zimbabwe to London is a huge development that will improve connectivity, boost trade, and enhance Zimbabwe’s global presence.
