Former Member of Parliament for Norton constituency, Temba Mliswa who is now a headman has hailed the government’s plans to give a greenlight to headmen to issue birth and de@th records for individuals born or dying outside of healthcare facilities.
Recently, Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Kazembe Kazembe told the Senate on Thursday that over 5 900 village heads had been capacitated to issue birth and de@th notification records.
“I am grateful that this law relating to the powers of village heads on issues to do with birth certificates and death confirmation are being enforced. We have so many such laws that are in the Constitution but are not enforced,” Temba Mliswa wrote on his X.
The former lawmaker also praised Hon. Kazembe Kazembe for seeking the implementation of the law.
“Kudos to Minister Kazembe for seeking for the implementation of these laws. I feel that our legal players should be seized with these issues, pushing for enforcement,” said Temba.
