The government has distributed food aid to over 670 vulnerable families in Ward 11 of Mudzi, Zimbabwe. The aid was handed over by Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Senator Munzverengwi, at a food distribution point at Nyaugugu Primary School.
The beneficiaries, who are struggling to make ends meet due to the severe drought that has hit the country, received a three-month supply of grain, which is expected to provide them with much-needed sustenance.
The distribution exercise is part of the government’s Food Deficit Mitigation Strategy, aimed at assisting those affected by the drought.
The beneficiaries were overwhelmed with gratitude as they received the much-needed relief.
“We have been struggling to get by since the drought started, and this aid has come at a critical time for us.” said one beneficiary.
The distribution exercise is also expected to boost economic activity in the affected areas, as the beneficiaries will be able to purchase other essential items with their newfound resources.
The government’s swift response to the crisis has been widely praised by locals, who are grateful for the assistance.
“We appreciate the government’s quick response to our plight,” said another beneficiary. “This aid has given us hope that things will get better soon.”
The distribution exercise is just one part of the government’s efforts to address the drought crisis in Zimbabwe.
Other initiatives include providing irrigation equipment and training farmers on conservation agriculture practices to improve crop resilience.
