Real Madrid head coach and manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has supported left-back Ferland Mendy in securing a contract extension at the club. Mendy recently entered the final year of his current contract with Madrid.
Mendy signed a six-year contract when he first arrived from Lyon in 2019. According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid officials have agreed on contract terms with the French professional footballer.
“Carlo Ancelotti was crucial in securing Ferland Mendy’s new deal, as the Real Madrid manager strongly wanted him to stay. Ancelotti considers Mendy an underrated, excellent player. The new deal, valid until June 2027, has been verbally agreed upon but is still waiting to be signed,” Fabrizio confirmed.
The 29-year-old was called up for national duty by France for Euro 2024 but did not get playing time. Mendy is expected to sign the new deal until 2027 when he reports for duty after a holiday.
The deal is set to include an option for a further 12 months, dependent on appearances, while the salary is also reported to hinge on the number of games he plays, after missing many due to injury in previous seasons.
