THE Zanu-PF Bulawayo youth wing has joined other provinces and wings in amplifying calls for President Mnangagwa to rescind his decision not to seek re-election when his term of office expires in 2028, saying he should continue until the country realises Vision 2030.
The youths in the province said the move to call for the President to continue is informed by the illustrious development works achieved since his assumption of office.
Hundreds of youths convened at an inter-district meeting held at the party’s provincial offices in Bulawayo yesterday which was graced by the party’s secretary of Youth Affairs, Cde Tino Machakaire, his deputy Cde John Paradza and other national youth league leaders.
Speaking through the Youth League Provincial Chairman, Cde Freedom Murechu, the youths said they had made several resolutions, chief among them being a request for President Mnangagwa to see through his Vision 2030.
“As the youth league in Bulawayo, we have come up with several resolutions which we request our national Secretary for Youth Affairs, Cde Tino Machakaire, to pass them to the President.
“The major resolution is that we are impressed with the development that President Mnangagwa has spearheaded within the nation. We kindly request that he sees through his Vision 2030 and continue with the development of the nation till he finishes what he set,” said Cde Murechu.
The youth league also requested that 1 July be declared a national holiday in honour of the late Vice-President, Dr Joshua Nkomo.
“We also resolved that after observing the works of the late Vice-President Dr Joshua Nkomo, we appeal to the President that the day Vice-President Nkomo died be declared a national holiday,” said Cde Murechu.
Addressing the inter-district meeting, Cde Machakaire, who is also the Minister of Youth Empowerment Development and Vocational Training said he was happy that the youths from Bulawayo were seeing the good works which President Mnangagwa is doing and will relay the request to him.
He, however encouraged the youth to take responsibility and safeguard the party, harness opportunities and shun corruption.
“I am happy that you have made these resolutions. We all want to see President Mnangagwa seeing through his Vision 2030.
However, it is important for you as the youth to be the vanguard of the party and safeguard it.
“Let us be vibrant youth who will support the President’s development agenda through being responsible and hardworking, working for the party. The President deployed us to thank you for voting for him but encouraged us to tell you to work hard and harness various opportunities that are being availed,” said Minister Machakaire.
He took a swipe at corrupt elements saying they have recommended that going forward, deserving youths from the party should also benefit from tenders as a way to empower them economically.
“Corruption is a very concerning issue but following what we have seen happening, we have recommended that deserving party youths should benefit from certain tenders that will empower them,” said Minister Machakaire.
The meeting was graced by Politburo members Cde Elifas Mashaba, Cde Molly Mpofu, Cde Judith Ncube and central committee members.
