A brazen th3ft at Eastgate Mall has left the staff of “The Point of Gentlemen’s Wear” and mall patrons both bewildered and anxious.

The incident involved a man who cunningly st0le a phone from the shop, but thanks to swift police action and the vigilance of the community, the thief has now been apprehended.

Eastgate Mall Shop thief Image: InternetThe unsettling event unfolded in the late afternoon, when the store was bustling with customers. According to the shop employees, the man entered the store posing as a customer interested in purchasing suits. He approached the cashier, asking detailed questions about various suit sizes and styles, appearing genuinely interested in making a purchase.

“He seemed like a regular customer,” the cashier recalled. “He was polite, well-dressed, and asked all the right questions.”

As the interaction progressed, the cashier realized they did not have the specific size the man claimed to need. In a bid to provide excellent customer service, the cashier offered to call another branch to check for availability. It was during this moment of distraction that the thief executed his plan.

While the cashier turned away to make the call, the man swiftly snatched the phone from the counter and exited the store. His movements were quick and calculated, leaving the staff stunned and momentarily confused once they realized what had happened.

By the time the theft was discovered, the man had already blended into the crowds of Eastgate Mall. The store immediately reviewed their security footage, which clearly captured the thief’s image. These images were promptly released to the public in hopes that someone might recognize the culprit and assist in his capture.

The footage showed the man, who appeared to be in his late twenties, with a distinct tattoo on his left forearm and wearing a black baseball cap. The clear images from the security cameras played a crucial role in the subsequent investigation.

The police were alerted and began their search for the suspect. Community members, stirred by the incident, shared the images widely on social media platforms. Tips started pouring in, leading the authorities to a nearby neighborhood where the suspect was reportedly seen.

Within 48 hours, the police successfully tracked down and apprehended the thief. He was found hiding in a friend’s apartment, attempting to lay low after realizing his image was circulating widely. The stolen phone was recovered from his possession, along with other items believed to be stolen.

“The swift capture of this thief is a testament to the power of community vigilance and effective law enforcement,” said Detective Inspector James Moyo, who led the investigation. “We are grateful for the public’s assistance in sharing the suspect’s images, which significantly aided in his capture.”

The employees at “The Point of Gentlemen’s Wear” expressed their relief and gratitude upon hearing the news of the arrest. The cashier, still shaken by the experience, recounted the incident with a sense of closure.

“This man came into our shop pretending to be a customer. When I turned to call another branch for the size he needed, he took my phone and ran off. I’m relieved he’s been caught and thankful to everyone who helped,” the cashier said.
