Tragic road Traffic accident claims five lives on Harare-Mutare road

On the evening of August 7  2024, a devastating road traffic accident took place at the 53-kilometer peg along the Harare-Mutare road, resulting in the tragic loss of five lives and leaving four others !njured.

The incident occurred around 19:20 hours when a Ford Ranger, carrying two passengers, collided head-on with a Honda Fit, which had five occupants on board.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed that the deceased have been identified by their next of kin as follows:

Phillip Sithole (34) – A male adult residing in Morningside, Mutare
Jimmy Tinashe Sithole (28) – A male adult also from Morningside, Mutare
Samuel Sithole (27) – Another male adult from Morningside, Mutare
Rumbidzai Mlambo – A female adult from Morningside, Mutare
Laquisha Sithole (2) – A two-year-old female juvenile from Morningside, Mutare

 

The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Marondera Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations, while the inj_red parties have been admitted to the same hospital for medical treatment. As of the latest updates, the conditions of the !njured are being closely monitored by the medical staff.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police have emphasized the importance of adhering to road safety regulations and speed limits to prevent such heartbreaking incidents in the future.

In a statement, the police urged all motorists to exercise caution, abide by all road rules, and remain vigilant while driving.

Officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine the exact cause and to prevent further tragedies on the roads.
