Worshippers at a church in Ohio were astonished when a statue of the Virgin Mary seemed to blink at them during a recent visit.
The incident was captured on camera by churchgoers who were on hand to witness the National Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima on its tour across the region. Attendees at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist reported that the statue appeared to wink or blink its eyes while on display.
The statue, which was blessed by Pope Paul VI in Fatima in May 1967, was gifted to the UK by the Bishop of Fatima in 1968.
Photos taken by those present appear to show the statue’s eyes moving. Katie Moran, who shared the images on social media, told WJW, “I took one picture and thought, ‘that’s really nice.’ When I took another, the eyes were closed, and I was amazed!”

Others, like Connie Liptak, also reported seeing the statue’s eyes closed and described it as a miracle. Liptak remarked, “I had been looking at her all morning. Her lashes were definitely down.”
The statue is believed by some to have mystical healing powers, with reports of visitors experiencing cures for various ailments, from cancer to infertility.
Moran, who oversees the statue, expressed her belief in its spiritual significance, saying, “For those who believe, no proof is necessary. For those who don’t, no proof is possible. It’s faith and I believe.”
However, the blinking statue has faced skepticism online, with many questioning the authenticity of the phenomenon.
