Chelsea and England midfielder Conor Gallagher has formally returned to training after arriving back in the UK from Madrid on Tuesday.
Gallagher had already passed a medical and agreed to a five-year contract with the Spanish club Atlético Madrid after arriving in Spain late last week. Chelsea and Atlético Madrid had agreed on a £36 million transfer fee for Gallagher’s move, but the deal is now in jeopardy following the collapse of a deal for Samu Omorodion to leave the LaLiga side for Chelsea.
According to transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano, Gallagher, who returned to London from Madrid on Tuesday, has rejoined Chelsea’s training sessions.
“Conor Gallagher, formally back to training as Chelsea player after he returned in London from Madrid on Tuesday.
The tense situation between Chelsea and Atlético, crazy saga still ongoing and not called off yet by all the parties involved,” Romano confirmed.
Chelsea and Atletico are still in negotiations over a deal for Joao Felix, which would revive Gallagher’s transfer to the Spanish side.
Felix’s valuation is substantially higher than the £34.5m agreed for Omorodion therefore the Spanish side need further cash to complete the deal.
Meanwhile Chelsea’s previous contract offer of a two-year deal plus the option of a further 12 months could be revisited if Gallagher remains at the club.
