In a surprising turn of events, the Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga appeared to snub Zanu-PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa during the Defence Forces Day commemorations at Rufaro Stadium on Tuesday by notably refusing to shake hands with him.
Pictures circulating online suggest that there may be tension between the two, though it is also possible that the situation was not as it appeared.
The shots show Chiwenga walking past Mutsvangwa and as he proceeds to greet his wife, Monica, who is the Women’s Affairs minister, fueling speculation about tension between the two.
Reports state that the Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa’s criticisms have included remarks against the Vice President’s alleged ambitions and the process of leadership succession.
Last month, Mutsvangwa allegedly publicly criticized Chiwenga, claiming that he is not worth enough to take over presidency and suggesting that the ruling party’s leadership should be determined by grassroots votes rather than endorsements.
Mutsvangwa has also accused Chiwenga of being involved in the arr3st of his son, Neville, on charges of illegal foreign currency trading, claiming it was an attempt to drive a wedge between him and the president.
