Two men have been sentenced to pr!son for their involvement in a planned armed robbery, even though they never executed the cr!me.
Phillip Semba, 34, and Ralph Mavura, 39, were each handed a five-year pr!son sentence by the Harare Magistrates’ Court after their conspiracy to rob a company in Chisipite, Harare, was uncovered.
The plot came to light when their associate, Roy Mutemagazi, was detained on June 17, 2023, at the Beitbridge Border Post while attempting to cross into South Africa.
During his ar3st, police found firearms and discovered detailed robbery plans on his phone.
This evidence led to the arr3st of Semba and Mavura.
The men had coordinated their scheme through WhatsApp, with Mavura sharing confidential details about substantial amounts of cash at his place of employment.
The court sentenced Semba and Mavura to eight years in prison, but with three years suspended for good behavior, effectively leaving them with five years to serve.
Mutemagazi, who was diagnosed with a mental !llness, was sent to a mental health facility.
