Zimbabwe has been pointed out as one of the nations grappling with a burgeoning cancer crisis, as it ranks among the top four countries globally for cancer mortality rates.
The Zimbabwe National Cancer Registry reported a worrisome increase in cancer-related d3aths, documenting 2,743 fatalities alongside 7,841 new cases in 2018 alone.
In response to this alarming trend, Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care Sleiman Timeous Kwidini outlined the government’s proactive measures to address the rising incidence of cancer.
He emphasized that efforts are underway to enhance cancer screening capabilities and decentralize treatment services, which would increase accessibility for patients across the nation.
Notably, the government’s ongoing initiatives include the provision of advanced equipment at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, with plans to revitalize cancer treatment services in all central hospitals.
Through these measures, the government aims to combat the escalating cancer crisis and improve healthcare outcomes for its population.
