Police in Shurugwi are currently investigating a case of attempted m_rder that unfolded on August 22 2024, at a police checkpoint located at the 42-kilometer mark along the Gweru-Zvishavane Road.
The incident involved George Mandaraza, a 34-year-old driver of a Toyota Hiace kombi with registration number AFE 1506, who was stopped at the checkpoint for a traffic violation and subsequently arrested, leading to his escort to the nearest police station.
However, in a sh0cking turn of events, Mandaraza executed a U-turn and purposefully drove the kombi back towards the roadblock, crashing into police drums before veering off the road and colliding with streetlights.
The chaotic sequence of events concluded with a head-on collision with a Honda Fit, inj_ring both a police officer at the scene and the driver of the Honda Fit.
Following the cr@sh, Mandaraza fled the scene, prompting police to request that anyone with relevant information report to the nearest police station to assist in the investigation.
