In a significant blow to Zimbabwe’s football team, the Warriors, France-based forward Tino Kadewere has been ruled out of the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification matches against Kenya and Cameroon.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) confirmed the news in a statement, announcing that the Nantes forward will not join the team due to the unfortunate !njury.
Kadewere, one of four strikers selected by new Warriors coach Michael Nees, sustained an !njury over the weekend, rendering him unable to participate in the crucial matches.
This development comes on the heels of another setback, as Plymouth Argyle defender Brendan Galloway withdrew from the squad on Saturday due to a hamstring !njury.
Undeterred by these challenges, Nees has swiftly called up Farai Banda from Manica Diamonds to bolster the team’s attacking options.
Banda is expected to depart for Uganda on Monday, September 2, accompanied by seasoned defender Teenage Hadebe.
The majority of the selected players have already arrived in Kampala, with the exception of Marshall Munetsi, Munashe Garananga, and Jordan Zemura, who are scheduled to join the team on Tuesday morning.
The Warriors are set to compete in Group J of the 2025 AFCON qualifiers this month, facing off against Kenya on Friday, September 6, and Cameroon on Tuesday, September 10, at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.
