On 3rd September 2024, a tragic road traffic accident occurred at approximately 0800 hours at the 222-kilometre peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road, Beitbridge, resulting in a devastating rise in the d3ath toll to seven individuals.
Among the victims, the Zimbabwe Republic Police have confirmed the identification of six individuals by their next of kin, with names disclosed to the public.
The identified victims include Farai Rateiwa, a male adult from Makoni, Rusape, and Andrew Dembura, a male adult hailing from Nyabonga, Zaka, Masvingo.
The list continues with Felistas Bhasitera, a female adult, also from Nyabonga, Zaka, Masvingo.
Tragically, two juvenile victims, IsAel Dembura, a 9-year-old girl, and Hilfrasia Dembura, a 6-year-old girl, were also identified as part of this unfortunate incident, both being from the same locality.
Additionally, there remains one unidentified victim, described as a foreign national, highlighting the international dimensions of road safety concerns.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police are urgently reminding all motorists to adhere strictly to all road rules and regulations.
Furthermore, it is an appeal to all road users to exercise vigilance, patience, and care to prevent further loss of life.
