A 39-year-old woman, Refiloe Malekoa, and her 19-year-old son, Goitsimang Madibela, have been arrested and charged with m_rder after allegedly k!lling Refiloe’s husband, Lucas Molekoa, 63.
The incident occurred on Sunday at their home in Maubane village, near Makapanstad.
According to North West police spokesperson Col Amanda Funani, the suspects claimed that Lucas was m_rdered during a robbery, but investigations revealed a different story.
Reports suggest that an argument broke out between Lucas and his stepson Goitsimang while they were watching soccer on TV.
The mother and son duo were arrested on Monday and appeared in Moretele magistrate’s court on Wednesday for a bail hearing.
The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the m_rder, and the pair’s bail application is pending.
It is alleged the argument became physical and the mother attempted to separate the two but failed.

“It is alleged the argument became physical and the mother attempted to separate the two but failed. It is further alleged that on realising that her husband was overpowering her son, Refilwe hit Molekoa with an object over the head and he collapsed,” said Funani.
According to Funani, Refiloe and Goitsimang strangled Molekoa with a rope before going outside to contact neighbours and pretend there had been a house robbery.
“Police were called and the two suspects were taken in for questioning. The pair was later charged with m_rder after investigations revealed they allegedly k!lled the victim.”
