A group of street vendors, reportedly from Zimbabwe and Nigeria, had to make a fast getaway in New York City after seeing police officers approaching.
The vendors were selling counterfeit designer goods on the ground in Times Square when they noticed the NYPD nearby.
In a video that’s gone viral, you can see the vendors quickly packing up their merchandise and running off as the officers get closer.
Street vending, where people lay out their products on the ground and call out prices, is a common practice in Africa. But this informal style of selling often doesn’t work in other countries.

These vendors were trying to bring a piece of their home country’s street market culture to New York, hoping to make a quick profit. Their sudden departure and the nature of their goods have sparked some criticism from Zimbabweans online, who feel the vendors’ actions have hurt their country’s reputation.
