A 22-year-old maid from Dzivaresekwa has been handed a 15-year jail term for the egregious offense of aggravated s3xual ass@ult on an 8-year-old boy, son of her employer’s landlord.
Despite pleading not guilty, the maid was convicted on two counts of aggravated indecent ass@ult following a thorough trial.
According to media reports, Harare regional magistrate Esthere Chivasa delivered the verdict, emphasising that the State had presented a compelling case.
The magistrate imposed a 15-year sentence for each count, with the sentences running concurrently. In her ruling, Chivasa stressed that aggravated indecent ass@ult is tantamount to r@
pe, particularly when involving a young child, and therefore warranted a severe sentence.
She highlighted the gravity of the offense, citing the risk of transmitting s3
xually transmitted diseases and the potential for the maid to have ass@ulted other children.
Chivasa emphasised that a sentence below five years would be inappropriate for such a heinous crime, and community service would be an affront to justice.
The court heard that the maid had lured the boy into the bedroom and ass@ulted him in March, with the incident coming to light on August 19.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance in protecting vulnerable members of society.
