A 54-year-old man, Morgan Muwodzeri, faced magistrates court charges related to the th3ft of trust property amounting to US$42,900.
Harare magistrate Patricia Kamwana granted Muwodzeri bail set at US$250, subjecting him to conditions including residing at a specified address and surrendering his passport.
The State alleges that between January 2021 and July of this year, Muwodzeri was entrusted by Eugenia Nyamuturira to keep a Nissan Pathfinder belonging to Shadreck Munyuki, who resides in the UK.
However, in June, Muwodzeri allegedly forfeited the vehicle to Lekka Micro-Finance as collateral for a loan without Nyamuturira’s consent.
When Nyamuturira requested the return of the vehicle later that month, Muwodzeri reportedly failed to comply, prompting a police report and his subsequent arrest.
Additionally, in December of the previous year, Munyuki entrusted Muwodzeri with US$12,300 to safeguard for a future property purchase, but Muwodzeri allegedly converted these funds for his own use when directed to release the money.
Furthermore, from January 2022 to June this year, Muwodzeri was again entrusted with US$12,000 for safekeeping by Nyamuturira, which he also allegedly misappropriated.
