The tragic incident involving the four children in Namibia’s Zambezi Region has raised concerns about safety and awareness regarding unregulated or abandoned items in residential areas.
The children, aged between three and six, were reportedly playing and became accidentally trapped in an old, unused deep freezer.
The police suggest that the children suffocated inside, while two succumbed to their injuries at the hospital after being rescued.
Witness accounts highlight the distressing scene, with Aranges Shoro, a father of the affected children, recounting the moment paramedics arrived and the urgent rush to the hospital.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the freezer’s presence outside the home and to ensure measures are taken to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Local authorities may also consider raising community awareness about the need for proper disposal and securing of hazardous items to protect children.
