On September 14, 2024, two tragic road traffic accidents occurred in Masvingo and Rusape, resulting in the loss of seven lives, as confirmed by a press statement from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
In Masvingo, the fatal accident claimed the lives of four individuals, whose names have been released following identification by their next of kin. The victims include:
Siyano Nyamande (40) – A female adult residing in Crownhill, Borrowdale, Harare.
Priscilla Musembwa (64) – A female adult from, Cranborne, Harare.
Memory Kwenda (40) – A female adult hailing from Dzivarasekwa, Harare.
Epson Nyamande (45) – A male adult also residing in Crownhill, Borrowdale, Harare.
The circumstances surrounding the Masvingo accident are currently under investigation, with police appealing to witnesses to come forward with any information that could assist in understanding the events leading up to the tragedy.
Meanwhile, in the second incident that occurred in Rusape, three lives were lost, and the identities of two victims have been confirmed:
Madekufamba Virginia – A female adult from Mundopa Village.
Kadungure Clement (53) – A male adult residing in Kamba Village, Makoni, Rusape.
The third victim from the Rusape accident has yet to be publicly identified. Authorities continue to investigate the nature of the collision, as they seek to establish how such a devastating incident could occur.
The ZRP has expressed deep condolences to the families and friends of the victims and has urged all road users to exercise caution, adhere to traffic regulations, and prioritize safety, especially during busy travel periods.
