Three suspected h@ckers from Bulawayo, Gladstone Mthulisi Tshabalala, Dalumuzi Masotsha Moyo, and Manase Manjovha, appeared in court yesterday, facing fraud charges for attempting to swindle a local security company, Real Star, out of $190,000. They were granted bail of $100 each and will return to court today for a possible trial date allocation.
The alleged h@cking incident occurred on September 2, when the trio accessed Real Star’s mobile banking credentials. They then tried to replace the SIM card linked to EcoCash at Econet Wireless Zimbabwe on September 12.
However, their plan was foiled when an Econet agent, Taurai Mushamba, became suspicious and alerted the authorities.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first h@cking incident in Zimbabwe. There have been other reported cases, like the one involving a Chitungwiza man who hacked into Liquid customers’ accounts and stole data.
The accused individuals’ attempted fraud was cleverly thwarted, and now they face the consequences of their actions. We’ll keep an eye on this story as it unfolds.
