The Youth Service in Zimbabwe program, which was recently relaunched by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has successfully recruited over 1,000 youths.
The announcement was made by Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr. Jenfan Muswere following a Cabinet meeting.
The program aims to empower young people by providing them access to socio-economic opportunities in various sectors of the economy.
The relaunch took place on May 24, 2024, at the Nhakiwa Vocational Training Centre in Mashonaland East Province, where 1,082 youths were enrolled in the first intake at the Vumba and Dadaya Training Centres.
According to Dr. Muswere, efforts to combat drug and substance abuse have reached an estimated five million youths through national awareness campaigns utilizing various media platforms, including television, radio, and social media.
Furthermore, infrastructure developments related to the program include the construction of an innovation hub at Ruwa Vocational Training Centre, which is 80 percent complete.
This hub will provide youths with resources to develop their innovations. The establishment of Production Vocational Training Units is also in progress, with 45 Vocational Training Centres being prepared to operate production hubs.
In addition to ongoing construction projects, including the Sinovo Vocational Training Centre and the planned Umguza Dairy Parlour, the program aims to instill a sense of patriotism and unity among Zimbabwe’s youth.
