Daisy Mtukudzi, the widow of the late music legend Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, expressed her feelings of being cyberbullied following her stepdaughter Selmor’s dramatic exit from the inaugural Oliver Mtukudzi International Festival of the Arts (OMIFA).
During the festival, Selmor, who had been given a prime slot, abruptly left the stage moments into her performance, despite efforts from other family members, including Sandra Mtukudzi and Selmor’s husband, to persuade her to continue.
Daisy emphasized the embarrassment she felt from the situation, stating that it would ultimately be up to the public to judge her.
She highlighted that the festival was meant to honor Tuku’s legacy rather than focus on personal disputes.
Moreover, Daisy received support from various stakeholders, appreciating their presence at the event.
Many attendees, including Virginia Mukwesha from Germany, expressed disappointment at Selmor’s actions, viewing them as disrespectful, especially considering fans had paid to celebrate Tuku’s legacy.
The festival went on to showcase remarkable performances from a variety of artists, including Mokoomba and Jah Prayzah, with each act contributing to the celebration of Tuku’s influence in music.
Jah Prayzah received special acknowledgment from Daisy, who praised his loyalty and commitment to honoring Tuku.
The event successfully celebrated the icon’s life, demonstrating the collective effort of musicians and fans to remember a beloved figure in Zimbabwe’s musical history.
Ultimately, the festival highlighted the rich talent in the country while spotlighting the need for unity and respect among family members and artist
