Taurai Prosper Vanhuvaone, 29, has been released on bail of US$100 following his arrest for allegedly impersonating a doctor at Mpilo Central Hospital.
He operated under the alias “Prosper Mpofu” and has been charged with two counts of fraud and one count of misrepresentation.
Vanhuvaone is accused of violating the Health Professions Act by practicing medicine without a license. On August 17, he allegedly deceived Faith Hove into paying US$120 for ineffective treatment.

In addition, he is accused of defrauding Samantha Ziki of US$1,600 by falsely claiming he could secure her admission to the Mpilo Central Hospital School of Nursing.
Magistrate Nomagugu Maphosa set bail conditions that require Vanhuvaone to reside at his registered address, report to the police weekly, and avoid contact with any state witnesses.
For two years, he operated without detection, managing to establish an office at Mpilo and provide treatment to patients at both Mpilo and United Bulawayo Hospitals.
He is scheduled to return to court on October 7.
