The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed a tragic road traffic accident in which a toddler, just one year and three months old, lost their life after being struck by a Honda Fit vehicle that was reversing in the yard of a residence in Maridale, Norton.
The incident occurred on September 23, 2024, at approximately 15:10 hours, causing shock and grief among residents in the community.
Eyewitnesses reported that the child was playing in the yard when the vehicle started moving backward, resulting in a devastating accident.
Emergency services were quickly summoned to the scene, and the injured toddler was rushed to a local hospital in Norton for medical attention.
Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the medical staff, the child succumbed to severe head !njuries shortly after arrival.
This incident has raised concerns about child safety and awareness around vehicles in residential areas.
Local authorities have since emphasized the importance of vigilance when operating vehicles in close proximity to children.
