In an emotional conversation, Shantel’s mother shared, “She complained of headaches and difficulty reading at night.”
Shantel was initially treated at the White District Hospital in Zvishavane. Unfortunately, her condition deteriorated, and she was later transferred to a hospital in Gweru, where she ultimately passed away.
Since the news of her passing, rumors have circulated in the community suggesting that witchcraft may have been involved, allegedly motivated by jealousy of Shantel’s academic success.
However, her mother has firmly dismissed these claims, stating, “I know nothing about that.”
An unnamed source brought up potential family issues, saying, “There are many stories, and not everyone is on good terms.” This hint at underlying family dynamics adds another layer of complexity to the situation, though it remains unverified.
In a testament to her hard work and dedication to her studies, Shantel was posthumously honored at Muzondo High School’s prize-giving ceremony on September 27, where she received an astonishing 15 awards. This acknowledgment reflected the impact she made academically, despite her untimely death.
Efforts to contact Shantel’s grandfather, Allowed Chomuyeke, who is the head of Muzondo High School and lives in the school’s cottages, for a statement have been unsuccessful.
