A manhunt is underway for two gangs of suspected armed robbers involved in two major heists, one in Harare and another in Esigodini. In these incidents, the criminals made off with large sums of cash and weapons, escalating concern over the growing trend of robberies targeting individuals and businesses with significant amounts of money.
In Esigodini, the robbers raided a family home, seizing US$45,000 and seriously injuring one of the occupants, who was shot in the chest.
The victim is currently receiving treatment in Bulawayo. Meanwhile, in Harare, another gang struck a security company in Strathaven, escaping with US$23,000, five guns, and other security equipment including pepper spray and handcuffs.
The two gangs remain at large, prompting police to appeal for public assistance in their investigation. National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi urged anyone with information on the Esigodini or Harare incidents to report to the nearest police station.
Authorities are concerned about the rise in similar crimes, with robbers increasingly targeting those known to keep large amounts of cash on hand.
