In a troubling incident of road rage, Remigious Toendepi Matangira’s son, Diaz, has faced legal consequences after pointing a firearm at a soldier.
The 30-year-old Matangira, who pleaded guilty to the charges, was fined US$400 by Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo, with the alternative of serving four months in prison if he failed to pay.
The confrontation occurred on September 16 at approximately 10 a.m. on Lomagundi Road, where Matangira, driving his father’s Ford Ranger Raptor, accused soldier Arnold Musengi, who was behind the wheel of a Toyota Vitz, of obstructing the road.
In a heated exchange, Matangira brandished a pistol, despite Musengi’s attempts to smooth things over by apologising.
The situation escalated as Musengi, undeterred, rallied other motorists to help block Matangira’s vehicle at a nearby intersection.
There, Musengi confronted Matangira and successfully retrieved a loaded 9mm pistol from the driver’s door panel, which ultimately led to Matangira’s arrest.
Authorities seized the firearm, spotlighting the seriousness of the incident and its implications for public safety.
