Winston “Burning Spear” Rodney, a famous Jamaican reggae singer, has arrived in Harare, Zimbabwe, for his first tour in the country. The 79-year-old legend will perform at Glamis Arena tomorrow as part of his “One People Tour Africa.”
Last night, his team had a press conference for him because he was tired from his long flight.
They shared that Burning Spear feels grateful for the warm welcome from his fans in Zimbabwe.
They also announced that his new album, “No Destroyer,” has been nominated for a Grammy award, and a song from the album called “Mommy” is popular worldwide.
His representative mentioned, “Burning Spear has a deep love for Africa, and this tour is all about that love.”
Several local artists will join him on stage, including Cello Culture, Transit Crew, Emmanuel “Mannex” Motsi, Killer T, Merciless, MC Fydale, Judgement Yard, Banso Da MC, and Feli Nandi.
After the concert in Harare, Burning Spear will head to South Africa for a performance at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg on Saturday. He will then perform at Mhudi Wines Farm in Cape Town on Sunday.
This tour will add Burning Spear to the list of other famous Jamaican artists who have performed in Zimbabwe, such as Morgan Heritage, Buju Banton, and Sizzla Kalonji.
Burning Spear has been making music since the 1960s. Born on March 1, 1945, in Jamaica, he champions the rights of black people through his music. Some of his well-known songs include “Marcus Garvey,” “African Teacher,” and “Chant Down Babylon.”
