The Nchelenge magistrate court sentenced a 19-year-old guy to three years in prison with hard work for stealing a K20 trouser.
Gift Changi of Luswili village, in Chieftainess Kanyembo’s jurisdiction of Nchelenge District, has been charged with one count of ste@ling in violation of Zambian law.
The facts presented in court were that on October 18, 2018, Chongo took his mother Florence Bwalya’s pant worth K20.
He informed magistrate Emmanuel Mukoma, who asked why he stole his mother’s underwear, that he planned to use it in rituals to get money.
In mitigation, the accused appealed with the court to be lenient because he was the first offender and would never conduct the same offense again.
Magistrate Mukoma passed punishment on the accused, saying it is a taboo for a youngster to touch or see his parents’ undergarments, and that the manner he used to obtain wealth was not the regular approach.
He noticed that the accused would even k!ll his own mother for money if he could touch her pants.
To deter future criminals, he condemned Chongo to three years in jail with hard labour beginning on the date of arrest.
