Edwin Muchekayawa, a 21-year-old man from Zvishavane, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison by the High Court in Gweru after being convicted of murd3r.
The case stemmed from an incident that took place in August last year, when Muchekayawa visited the home of Passmore Shumba, his ex-girlfriend’s husband, at around 11 PM.
Upon arrival, he knocked on the window and called out Shumba’s name, prompting Shumba to come outside.
In a sudden act of viol3nce, Muchekayawa used a catapult to strike Shumba on the ribs with a stone before fleeing the scene.
The following morning, Shumba, along with his brother Tawanda and a friend named Chengeto Nyadzo, tracked Muchekayawa’s footprints as they sought to uncover the identity of Shumba’s @ttacker.
Their investigation led them to Muchekayawa’s homestead, where they confronted him and threatened to inform the local headman.
As they attempted to leave, Muchekayawa armed himself with an axe and chased after them.
During the chaos, Shumba fell to the ground, and Muchekayawa caught up with him, delivering a fatal blow to his head behind the ear with the axe.
This brutal @ttack resulted in Shumba’s d3ath, with Muchekayawa fleeing the scene and leaving Shumba lying in a pool of blood.
The matter was reported to the police shortly thereafter, leading to Muchekayawa’s eventual arrest and conviction for his heinous crimes.
