In the Welkom Regional Court, a Free State lady was sentenced for ass@ult with the intent to cause serious bodily h@rm.
The 37-year-old woman cannot be identified because her children, who are still minors, must be shielded from secondary trauma.
The three children are 11 and nine-year-old twins. Sergeant Sinah Mpakane, the provincial police spokesperson, stated the incident occurred on June 1, 2024.
The mother was convicted of the assault charges. The court heard that on the day of the event, the youngsters were jumping on the bed and got into a quarrel.
The mother then summoned all three of them and directed them to place their hands on the ironing board, where she burned them with the iron.
She sent the youngsters to bed after they had been burned. The following day, the court was informed that one of the twins was sobbing and making noise.
The mother called her again, and the youngster was told to place her hand on the ironing board, after which the mother b_rned her with a hot iron.
The court heard that following the second occurrence, the mother fed all of the children and sent them to bed.
The next day at school, a teacher noticed the b_rn w0unds and asked one of the siblings what had happened, which he explained.
The boy also told the teacher that their mother burned all three siblings and explained why.
