Retired Chief Air Marshal Elson Moyo, who was the leader of the Air Force of Zimbabwe, sustained injuries in a car @ccident near Chegutu on Monday afternoon.
According to the police, the accident happened around 3:00 p.m. on the Chegutu-Pickstone Mine road. Moyo, who is 67 years old, was driving a silver Toyota Hilux pickup truck when he couldn’t make a turn.
The truck went off the road, hit a tree, and flipped over, landing on its wheels.
The report says that Moyo did not have obvious injuries but felt pain in his right hip and shoulder. A kind passerby took him to Chegutu District Hospital, and later, he was flown by helicopter to Harare Hospital. His condition is stable, and his family has been informed.
The truck was badly damaged; the front right wheel was knocked off, the headlamp was broken, and the front fender was bent. The vehicle was taken to Moyo’s farm in Concession Hill near Chegutu. The police are looking into the accident with a report number.
This accident has caught the public’s attention, especially since there have been other recent incidents involving high-ranking military officials. In the last few years, several senior officers in Zimbabwe’s armed forces have died or been injured in strange ways, leading to many questions and theories from the public.
Some of the cases that raised concerns include the sudden death of Major General Trust Mugoba in 2019 after a short illness, and the car accident death of Air Commodore Pio Maketo in 2020. Brigadier General Ruphus Chigudu also died in a reported accident that same year.
These unfortunate events involving high-level military officials have made people worry about their safety.
