A man is in trouble for giving a car he was supposed to use as an InDrive taxi to his wife as a gift.
He claims that he had hired the vehicle, but the car’s owner says he misused it.
Walter Tatenda Amon’s wife posted pictures on social media with the car, which got the owner’s attention. The car is owned by Panashe Chikambure. She saw videos of her car being driven by Walter’s wife and was shocked.
To make things worse, Walter had not paid the US$300 he was supposed to give to Panashe every week as part of their agreement. Now the matter has gone to the Harare Civil Court.
Panashe insists she had given Walter the car to use as a taxi, but he had turned it into a family vehicle. Walter disagrees, stating he hired the car for his family’s use.
In an interview with H Metro, Panashe explained that Walter asked for the car to use for InDrive.
They agreed that he would pay her US$200 every week. She trusted him because he is a pastor. After giving him the car, she asked him to take US$50 from the first payment to fix an oil issue, trusting he would give her the remaining money.
But then she started seeing videos on TikTok of Walter’s wife driving the car for personal errands. Panashe was surprised because she thought Walter’s wife didn’t even have a driving license.
Panashe said, “He was making excuses about my money and didn’t want to return my car. I was forced to go to the police to report the car as stolen because I just wanted it back. I even put a tracker on the car to find it.”

After weeks of searching, Panashe finally located Walter and got her car back, but it was in bad condition. She still claims he owes her US$300, and she decided to share her story on Facebook to expose what he did.
In response, Walter said he didn’t hire the car for a taxi but for personal use. He met Panashe on Facebook while looking for a car and agreed to pay her US$750 a month, which was to be divided into weekly payments of US$200. He said he mentioned he might use it for InDrive, but insisted he originally hired it for personal use.
Walter admitted he started having financial issues, and when his child got sick, he couldn’t pay Panashe as promised. He claimed he returned the car to her when she asked for it back, but she accused him of damaging it and reported him to the police.
Walter also mentioned that Panashe publicly exposed his family on Facebook, trying to shame him. In turn, he plans to take action against her for defamation after she posted about him.
When asked why his wife was seen driving the car, Walter explained they had rented it and were paying for it. “I don’t see the problem with my wife driving the car. Why drag her into this? She was driving it because we were renting it,” he said.
The situation has caused a lot of confusion, and now both sides are waiting for the court to resolve the issue.
