In a disturbing incident in Harare, a man named Ben Mapfumo faces charges of as$sault after allegedly att_cking his mother, Sizi Kujani, with an axe during a heated family dispute.
The altercation reportedly stemmed from Mapfumo’s anger over being reprimanded for verbally ab_sing a tenant.
On the evening of September 24, a drunken Mapfumo began shouting at the family tenant, prompting his mother to intervene and take him into the dining room for a private discussion.
However, the situation escalated when he forcibly pushed Kujani against the wall and threatened her life.
In a fit of rage, he left the room, returned with an axe, and inflicted a cut on his mother’s head by sliding the axe across her scalp.
The violent episode was interrupted by the screams of Mapfumo’s wife, after which he retreated to his room.
Kujani, fearing for her safety, chose not to return home after the incident and reported her son to the police, leading to his arrest.
Following the att_ck, she was examined by medical personnel, and authorities are expected to present her medical report as evidence in court.
During the hearing, Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa remanded Mapfumo in custody, advising him to seek alternative accommodation if he wishes to apply for bail.
