The seventh individual detained in connection with the Lusikisiki mass shooting is a convicted k!ller serving a life term. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) alleges that Mzukisi Ndamase, 46, plotted the m_rder of 18 persons in Lusikisiki.
A total of 18 persons k!lled in a hail of bullets on September 28, 2024, including 15 women and three males. Luxolo Tyali, an NPA spokesperson, said Ndamase is presently serving a life sentence for m_rder and robbery. “He has been apprehended from a Correctional Services facility.”
Tyali stated that during his appearance today, Ndamase chose to conduct his defense against the court’s wishes and declined to ask for release. Six persons have been arrested so far in connection with the m_rder.
The six accused are Siphosoxolo Myekethe, 45, Zenande Paya, 38, Mawethu Nomdlembu, 36, Aphiwe “AP” Ndende, 25, Lwando Antony Abi, 33, and Bonga Hintsa, 32.
They are all charged with 18 counts of m_rder and possession of unregistered g_ns and ammunition. The accused have all dropped their bail applications.
On October 17, 2024, Paya and Nomdlwembu were detained in Flagstaff with the four rifles and ammo that had been reportedly transported to other locations.
Two of the males, Ndende and Hintsa, were detained in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal. Abi was caught in East London on October 16, 2024.
Myekethe was arrested on October 7, 2024 at his home in Mthimde Location, Mamfengwini Area in the district of Lusikisiki.
All seven accused are due back in court on November 26, 2024.
