Former Manchester City striker, Julián Álvarez has secured two late goals to beat sixth division Vic 2-0 to reach the Copa del Rey second round on Thursday night.
The 24 year old striker was introduced in the second half after Diego Simeone’s first eleven line-up struggled to find the net even big names like Conor Gallagher, Alexander Sorloth and Rodrigo Riquelme were in.
The introduction of Julián Álvarez and the former France forward Antoine Griezmann help Simeone’s side to break the d3adlock in the 81st minute after Alvarez converted a free kick from the penalty spot.
In the 89th minutes, Atletico Madrid used the numerical advantage after Vic’s Alfons Senye was sent off after receiving a second yellow for complaining to the referee following the penalty award and Alvarez wrapped Atletico’s win after a counter attack.
Following last night’s win, Atletico joined Girona, Villarreal, Rayo Vallecano, Espanyol, Sevilla, Celta Vigo and Getafe in the second round, with all LaLiga sides advancing so far.
